Prior to Irene’s arrival I took my bike & toured from 42nd St down to Battery Park, the ocean as I wanted to see what was going on. The city was a ghost town with almost every window taped up in preparation for Irene. I have no real camera so the shots are pretty bad – but I did find some interesting stuff. It was a magical ride & the energy was something I’d never felt before in this city.
I love this city! : )
Fancy Irene Tape job from last night so I could sleep in relative peace 45 stories up :

So – we’re on the ‘backside of the Hurricane’ now as CNN’sย Anderson Cooper do deftly reported while, of course, not one hair was displaced by the gail force winds whipping behind him ๐
Public Transport is still completely out in the 5 boroughs and NJ is bracing for some major flooding as storm surges and rivers crest tonight and tomorrow. But NYC has taken it well and seems to do the hunkering down thing pretty well when it’s needed.
Finally, just two hours ago, right as she is pulling out Irene’s windย locked me out of my apartment actually by slamming the door on me & I just got let back in to finish writing you all this update. Thank you Irene – you crazy Hurricane, you!
Hope all of youย are safe & sound & with power
Love & light & dryness & calm for a while ๐

This past week’s been, well, just as hot & maybe even a bit busier than normal ( if that’s at all possible ๐
Along w/ my normal busking schedule in this rediculous heat the weekย began w/ a 6 hr photo shoot (w/ no a/c ) w/friend and fabulous musician/photographer, Mitchell Parsons http://www.mitchellparsons.com. We shot up in this spooky old house that was being renovated in ‘da Bronx ๐ย Some of the fun below….
Then….the next day I spent the day with Danny & German news anchor/reporter Pia Osterhaus filming underground for RTL Television (the German 20/20). The next day we went to “The Cotton Club” got the gift of seeing Danny perform live on stage – that man is a powerhouse! He lives to sing!!! And, we…the lucky ones live to hear him ๐
The rest of the week’s been spent mailing books and T-shirts to all you fabulous souls who pledged to my ‘busktheworld’ tour – Thank you all! Updates to each of you who did, coming very soon ๐
Now I’m re-grouping and preparing for some pretty fun news that I”ll be posting for you super soon!
Stay cool all of you. The heat’s been wicked so sit back, pick out your favourite tune, grab a glass of lemonade & let the music cool you down.
Love & music

A lot of the buskers have noticed an increased police presenceย underground, along w/ cops holding machine guns above on the street.ย And, yes, I was ‘nabbed’ by the cops last week @ 59th St/ Columbus Circle.ย So, we’ve surmised the latest ‘crackdown is due to usย being atย ‘war’ in Africa and that, of course, logically means no music underground in NYC, NY – Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense…
Which leads me to two favourite quotes of the week for the week – one from your s truly and the other from Rev Michael Beckwith.
“Let’s try the power of love vs the love of power…just for a minute and see what happens” ~ Moi
“When the ego loses, the soul wins” ~ Rev Michael Beckwith

Hi everyone! Merry Merry & Happy everything else that you celebrate out there above ground :)Last night, Christmas Eve, I busked 59th St and the vibe was nothing short of magical. People returning from shopping, headed out to holiday parties, all smiling and wishing me a Merry Christmas. Such a joyous underground ๐ I also had a gift of some good new this week. I had not see Danny, (the ‘Underground Pavorotti of Soul’ as I call him) in a long while and his phone was out & for the past 4-5 days I’d been worried sick about him. I looked everywhere for him underground but could not see or hear him anywhere. And the thing is Danny never misses a day – ever. He sings the trains 7 days a week 1-4 hrs a day 365 days a year. So, yeah, I was definitely worried.
Finally, last night after I packed up, right before I hopped on the train, I asked a couple who were playing the Downtown side of 59th if they had seen him. “Oh, yeah, Danny, I seen him yesterday. Yeah – he’s good. His phone’s all messed up though. He’s just been movin’ ’round ‘some cause of the cold” omg – you have no idea what a relief getting that news was. I had been so worried I’d been imagining a life w/out seeing or hearing Danny and it felt more than crushing to me. I will definitely be grabbing his address and contact info for his band so I’ll never have to worry needlessly again.
Big sigh of relief! Thank God he’s alright. To hear he’s just fine was the best Xmas gift ever.
Below are a few shots of my friends Juan Carlos and Duane spending Xmas afternoon @ Rockefeller Center gawking at the tree and lights ๐ Marry Christmas!
